An exploration of the growing influence of MAGA Catholics on the Vatican.

Conservative US Catholics, including figures like Steve Bannon, are mobilizing to influence the selection of a pope opposed to Pope Francis's liberal views. Prior to the papal conclave starting on 7 May, factions within the church, especially American Catholics, are actively campaigning in the Vatican and the US. Following the news of Francis's death, these groups quickly organized efforts to sway the church's future direction, engaging in strategic meetings and communications with cardinals to promote their preferred vision for the next papacy.

Here’s What They Meant to Say

Plotting Against Papa Frank – The New Mission of ‘Maga Catholics’

Looks like the so-called conservative US Catholics, led by figures like Steve Bannon, are dreaming big and plotting a ‘war that lasts decades’ against a pope who’s less traditional and decidedly more liberal than they prefer. Yes, while most are simply practicing their faith, their more fiery compatriots are gearing up for what they’re probably mistaking for some medieval crusade against the Vatican.

These ‘American Catholics’-more like a band of self-appointed revolutionaries-are busy preparing their plot to hijack the Vatican’s divine channels. No sooner had Pope Francis’s unfortunate farewell started its journey around the globe than these folks sprang into action, turning the event into their personal political arena rather than a solemn farewell to a leader of faith. It’s questionable and laughable, to say the least, booking red-eye flights and seating themselves at hypothetical dining tables with cardinals. I guess the holy tea must be worth this saga of theatrics.

Fancying Themselves the Catholic Elite

It’s both amusing and poignant. Watching these so-called devout conservatives play kingmaker is like watching a high-budget yet badly-scripted play. Just like true political insiders-they try to couch political ambition under the guise of religious integrity. Yet the hypocrisy is just too glaring to ignore. In a dramatic twist unbefitting even soap operas, they seem entirely comfortable in morphing the idea of religious leadership into a political game of chess with pawns and ladders.

With prayers as their battle hymns and ambition as their true god, it’s a showdown to watch-one brewed with all the political fanfare many conservative critics claim to abhor in other contexts. But when the narrative involves merging state and religious power, contradictions become joyfully overlooked.

There’s just something about these ‘Maga Catholics’ that assigns them a savior complex intertwined with nostalgia for a bygone era they can’t seem to relinquish. However, in their fervent obsession to control the very locus of Christianity, they might want to remember: faith is personal, not a pawn on their political chessboard.

The Final Act: Hypocrisy Meets Vanity

It’s rather amusing, isn’t it? A group so often championing rugged individualism now trying to literally play God by dictating religious leadership on a whim as though shopping for a new president. But hey, whatever helps them sleep at night, right? In the end, this grand spectacle might tickle their vanity, but perhaps they need a reminder: the Vatican might not be as impressionable as the echo chamber back home.
