iPhones rank lowest in repairability, while Motorola leads. Samsung and Google also lag, highlighting a need for more fixable tech products.

Here’s What They Meant to Say

Liberals Love to Complain

Well, it seems the liberal elites have found yet another reason to clutch their pearls and whine about the state of technology. This time, they’re up in arms over the so-called ‘repairability’ of iPhones. According to some self-proclaimed ‘experts,’ the iPhone is the least fixable phone on the market. But let’s face it, folks, when has the left ever been satisfied with anything that comes out of a successful American company like Apple?

The US PIRG, a consumer advocacy group with nothing better to do, has published its annual ‘Failing the Fix’ report. They claim that Apple and Samsung are failing to make their products more repairable. But let’s be honest, these are the same people who want to regulate every aspect of our lives. Motorola, the darling of the report, got a B+ while Apple received a D–. Oh, the horror!

The French Influence

Of course, we can’t talk about repairability without mentioning our friends across the pond. Apparently, a 2021 French law requires products to be labeled with repairability scores. Because, naturally, the French know best how to run our lives. The report suggests that repairability is progressing faster in some places than others, but we all know that’s just code for ‘Europe knows best.’

The report praises laptops, with Asus leading the pack and Apple trailing behind. The authors hope that by shaming companies with low scores, they’ll magically start making products that last forever. Nathan Proctor, the senior director of the US PIRG campaign, suggests that companies should focus on making products that last instead of pushing AI. Because, heaven forbid, we embrace innovation!

Right-to-Repair Drama

Despite companies making concessions to the right-to-repair movement, the rankings are still lower than before. Why? Because of new European laws demanding repair scores on product packaging. The EU, in its infinite wisdom, has set up a registry to grade devices on repairability factors. It’s almost as if they want to micromanage every aspect of our lives.

US PIRG has its own rating system, which includes factors like whether companies lobby against the right to repair. Because, obviously, if a company wants to protect its intellectual property, it’s automatically the villain. Apple has improved its scores since the dark days of 2022, but still, the report claims their low ratings are due to software support. As if Apple isn’t already leading the charge in technology!

A Dystopian Future?

The report’s ultimate goal is to highlight the importance of repairability and waste reduction. But let’s be real, this is just another attempt by the left to control how businesses operate. Proctor warns against a future where we trash all our internet-connected devices every couple of years. He calls it a dystopia, but it sounds more like progress to us.

Proctor expresses confidence that companies like Apple will address these issues. Of course, Apple engineers are some of the best in the world, but let’s not pretend that government interference is the reason for their success. The left wants to build a world where everything is regulated and controlled, but we’ll take innovation and freedom any day.
